Chris Tilling

Chris Tilling (PhD) is Graduate Tutor and Senior Lecturer in New Testament Studies at St Mellitus College. He very much enjoys teaching and supervising graduate students, and somehow finds time to write. Chris has authored or co-authored several books. Chris’s first book, the critically acclaimed Paul’s Divine Christology (Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2012), is now republished by Eerdmans (Eerdmans, 2015).  Chris is also the editor of Beyond Old and New Perspectives on Paul (Cascade, 2014). He is presently co-editing the T&T Companion to Christology (forthcoming, 2020), and writing the NICNT commentary on the Second Epistle to the Corinthians (Eerdmans, forthcoming). Chris has published numerous articles on topics relating to the Apostle Paul, Christology, justification, the historical Jesus, Karl Barth, the theology of Hans Küng, and more besides. Chris loves spending time with his family, his wife Anja and their two children. He also enjoys co-hosting the popular podcast OnScript, playing golf, and refining his chess strategies!

Nikolai Kohler

Nikolai Kohler (PhD) was awarded his doctorate in New Testament studies from the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Tübingen in 2018. Along with being a prefect of the Protestant state church of Württemberg, Germany, Nikolai is currently the pastor of a free evangelical congregation in Ostfildern. Nikolai loves horses, surfing, stock market blogs, snowboarding, football (all-time favorite Andrea Pirlo), salami egg omelets and cake sprinkles. And perhaps most unusual of all, Nikolai’s ministry includes performing free weddings! See this awesome link for more.

Joi Carr

Joi Carr (PhD), Professor of English and Film Studies at Pepperdine University, is currently serving as the Director of the Film Studies and an Academic Director of the Institute for Entertainment, Media, Sports, and culture. Her research interests are interdisciplinary: film studies, women's studies, and African American studies (literature, film, music), primarily focusing on identity. Joi teaches courses in film studies, American literature after the Civil War to present, and theater ensemble.  Along with being an award-winning teacher, Joi is a singer-songwriter and actress and an active member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA). Joi has appeared on television sitcoms and dramas (The Bronx Zoo, for instance) and as a vocalist has been featured on sound recordings for several national artists. Describing her sound as a fusion of jazz, R&B, pop, and soul, Joi has released eight solo albums. She composes (over 70 songs published), engineers, and produces through her gospel music production company, Chara Music. Joi’s latest release is Noel: An Acappella Christmas.

Jeff McSwain

Jeff McSwain (PhD) is the Founder of Reality Ministries, Inc, in Durham, NC (founded 2007). The non-profit’s mission is “creating opportunities for teens and adults with and without developmental disabilities to experience belonging, kinship and the life-changing Reality of Christ’s love.” Jeff has two degrees from St. Andrews, an MLitt (2002) and a PhD (2015). He has published various articles and two books, Movements of Grace: The Dynamic Christo-Realism of Barth, Bonhoeffer and the Torrances (Wipf and Stock, 2010), and most recently ‘Simul’ Sanctification: Barth’s Hidden Vision for Human Transformation (Pickwick, 2018).Keen to stay at the interface between systematic theology and practical ministry, in the last ten years Jeff and his wife Susan have helped plant two new churches and launch the North Street Neighborhood, an intentional community (17 houses) near downtown Durham where people of various abilities share life together. Jeff’s favorite thing is hanging out with Susan and their four children. He is an American History buff, and has been a Liverpool football fan for years (not just recently!).

Raymond Carr

Ray Carr (PhD) describes his research interests as theologically ecumenical, historically sensitive, and radically inclusive. Dr. Carr received his Ph.D. from Graduate Theological Union in Systematic and Philosophical Theology.  As an Assistant Professor of theology and ethics in the Religion and Philosophy Division at Pepperdine University, Dr. Carr taught courses on the theology of Martin Luther, Theology Born of Struggle, and the Old Testament in Context. He is currently working on a theological aesthetics, Theology in the Mode of Monk: Barth and Cone on Revelation and Freedom, which combines together his research interests and uses the music of Thelonious Monk as a form of parabolic suggestiveness (Cascade, forthcoming). Previous publications include “Merton and Barth in Dialogue on Faith and Understanding: A Hermeneutics of Freedom and Ambiguity,” The Merton Annual: Studies in Culture, Spirituality, and Social Concerns. Ray was a plenary speaker at the Princeton Barth Conference in 2018.

Lee Anderson

Lee Anderson is one of eight founding residents at the Corner House- "a community of friends with diverse abilities, gifts, limitations and challenges seeking to participate in the beauty of the Gospel through a shared life anchored in daily practices of prayer, mercy, and welcome"- in the North Street Neighborhood of Durham, NC. He is Director of Music at The Gathering Church, part-time support staff for his friend Sloan Meek, Community Worship Leader at Reality Ministries, lead singer/songwriter of the band Look Homeward, and an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Lee's most recent project is a collaboration with Sloan Meek and Suvya Carroll called 'Meek Squad' (pictured here). Their first album, entitled "I Am For You: Songs of Prayer and Peace", is a collection of original devotional songs that have grown out the experience of life in community at Reality Ministries and the North Street Neighborhood and is set to be released Spring 2020.

The Venue

Credo is a place of encounter and experience, a special house for groupe holidays, conferences and seminar. Individuals are also very welcome.

The word “credo” expresses our “faith” in a personal and living God and his son Jesus Christ.
